The Final Summary

So I finished up all the extra stuff I had to to for the class this week.  The only real work I have left to do is to make a few more comments and maybe update my final project if I get some good feedback.  I didn’t see a whole lot of project posts to comment on, and I went back several pages, so I hope I made enough comments.  I have a busy rest of the week at work, which is why I’m doing this on Tuesday, but maybe I can check in later and update stuff if I find some more to comment on.  I’m pretty happy about my final project, and for all intents and purposes, I consider myself to be done.  I’ve even turned in the assignment on Canvas.  But if I get some super good feedback or think of something really great I may add it and re-submit.  Here’s to hoping I get some great comments from my peers!

The Legend of Spooksy: Part 1

So, I was screwing around on the internet the other day, and I found this video

Just some crazy crackhead right? That’s what I thought too, but I had some time, so I started googling. It turns out, this guy actually went missing. I found this in a public records archive from around the date of the video.

Here’s another video he posted about a week before he disappeared talking about going back to the house.

And another one from two days before he was reported missing.

I guess he took pictures of the drawings he talked about, I found these on an iCloud account (don’t ask how I got in)

This has got to be one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s got to be a hoax right? Like this kind of stuff doesn’t really happen. But MAYBE, that’s exactly how things like this happen. Because we don’t want to believe that they are real. I mean, the guy said himself he went to get help and basically got ignored. Maybe he just filed the missing person’s report himself as a joke to get back at the police for not taking him seriously? I dunno, but I’m never going hiking again.

Mocking Up A Newsweek Cover (VisualTutorials737)

I wanted to do this one because it was one of the first assignments I did for the class, and it didn’t turn out great.  I hadn’t learned paint.NET yet, so I did it in ms paint.  Looking back it seems like such an easy assignment, and I think it would have been a great one to dip your feet in the water with a new program.  If I was going to change anything, maybe I would have cropped if a bit to make it look like a magazine, but most people get their news online now anyway, so I feel a banner type graphic is perfectly acceptable.  Also, I went through the settings of OBS, and it’s now my entire screen with much higher quality.  Mission accomplished.

How To: Multiply Thyself (VisualTutorials943)

I chose this assignment because in looking at the instructions, it seemed a bit rigid, so I wanted to offer some alternatives.  I like the idea of several versions of yourself sitting in an office interviewing each other, but why can’t they be in space?  Or on vacation?  I took three different generations of myself on a trip to the grand canyon.  I thought this was an interesting take because it added a bit of flair.  I could have used a prop, or taken some pictures of myself, but I felt that it honestly wouldn’t have changed the content of the tutorial much, and certainly not in any relevant way.  The only thing about the tutorial I wish I would have done differently, it I wish I would have shown how to use the lasso tool instead of just talking about it, because I think it’s a big part of the still frame take on this assignment.  I also wish I would have talked a bit about making a video and pulling frames from that instead of pictures, but I was already getting a bit lengthy, so I omitted.  I’m pretty new to OBS (Open Broadcast Software), and you can tell.  Part of my screen got cut off, and the video isn’t as high resolution as I would like.  I’ll definitely look into that on the next video.

A Framework of Terror

So here it is, the time we’ve all been waiting for: The final project.  I spent this week focusing on script writing, music composition, and story layout.  I have written an original song to serve as the sound track for my final project (The song you’re hopefully listening to now).  The song’s length will roughly correlate with the time it takes to consume my piece.  I have decided to limit the total time it takes to experience my project to around four minutes.  I have done this for a few reasons:

1 – I don’t want people to get bored or lose interest.  I am a firm believer in micro attention, and as such a feel the most powerful message is one delivered in a bite sized format that’s easy to consume and straight to the point.  I personally won’t bother reading/or watching something on the internet if it’s of a great length, or if I start to feel like the length is being artificially extended.  I want straight to the point, everything that needs to be there, and nothing that doesn’t.

2 – I don’t want my work to suffer because I have so many elements that they all don’t get the attention they deserve.  The real star of this project is going to be the pre-production effort.  As you may have caught from my opening, I am actually composing and preforming a musical piece from scratch for this.

I envision the project to be a single blog post, meant to look like a third party has already aggregated all the pieces of the story from various venues.  I very much want this post to feel like a documentary of sorts.  I intend it to be a pretty objective accounting of the actual story.  After a short intro blurb, there will be a video blog of the main character to watch, which will tell part of his story.  Essentially, he was hiking through the woods one day when he came upon a dilapidated house.  He entered it out of curiosity, but soon heard disturbing sounds from the basement.  Sounds of children in distress, but also of something else.  There will be an audio recording of this event.  The video will mainly be a self depricating tale of regret about him not attempting to help the children.  He will talk about the steps he’s taken with law enforcement.  I intend to have to him talk about smoking marijuana on the hike, and having the police disregard him.  Eventually he will decide to go back to the house.  There will then be a second video after he returns from the house with crayon drawings seemingly done by children.  These will depict Spooksy as first a lovable friendly guy, as we have seen him, but then as the monster he really is.  It will seem the house has been used again, but no one was present when he was there.  He will decide to visit the house a third time to wait for whomever resides there.  After this, I will have an official police report of his disappearance, and a little outtro blurb by the narrator.

This Case… IS SHOWED.

Hello folks, Spooksy here.  This week I’m bringing you five more cats the government doesn’t want you to pet.  I think?  Something like that.  ANyway, this first piece is a movie mashup poster between divergent and the hunger games: The Divergent Games.  I think this a great movie poster because if you hung this in a theater, people would think it was a real thing.  It’s done so well it could be professional.  The other thing I like about it is the fact that I could picture that movie being made.  The Idea and the execution were both really solid.
Agent Kitler

This on here I enjoy, because it’s utterly horrible and depraved.   The person that made this, should seek psychicatric help.  Like from that lady on the T.V. at night.
Meowchiavelli
This one good because all the images fit consistently together, they look like they were added from the same source at the same time, as opposed to being copy/pasted.  Also, we all want this movie to happen.  Even if you don’t, you do.
Snuffles The Destroyer of Couches
This one here is very short, but packs a lot of punch.  It makes a lot of heavy points in a very simple way.  I can’t say enough good things about it.
That which Squeaks
Here we see captain Kirk getting in a bit over his head as he tries to hang with the Jedi. That look on his face is priceless, because he’s going to die. Why are all Spooksy words underlined? I don’t understand, did I click the wrong button? Why won’t it let me link the picture of the cat? Hello? Internet?

Anyway, I hope you have found these kittens to be as disturbing as I have.  Make sure you send me $20 at www.putSpooksythroughnightschool.scrrrd and help support an underprivileged me in your area.  Can I stay with you for a few weeks until this cat pictures blog takes off by the way?
